ABOUT
US
While Bradley G. Courtney was researching for his books about the history of Prescott’s Whiskey Row, he began noticing the many connections Prescott and Tombstone shared, on both sides of the world-famous Tombstone dramas of 1881-82. From Doc Holliday and Virgil Earp to John Behan and Frank Stillwell, so much more. Longtime Tombstone history buff Constable Ron Williams, who holds the same office that Virgil Earp held in the late 1870s, had observed and documented these same connections. Courtney is now is the process of researching and writing a series of books and articles illuminating the tied histories of Prescott and Tombstone.

On August 14, 2024, the 173rd birthday of Doc Holliday, a crowd of approximately 150 history enthusiasts—many of them elaborately dressed—gathered near the northeast corner of Prescott’s Montezuma and Gurley streets, a few hundred feet north of what today is considered Whiskey Row. Why? A few months prior, a longstanding mystery had finally been solved. Researcher and genealogist D. Sue Kissel of Sharlot Hall Museum and Courtney had discovered the general location of where the then little-known dentist—seemingly on hiatus from that profession, perhaps even permanently in his mind—lived for at least four months in 1880. A successful fundraising campaign led to a historical marker being placed there. The unveiling event was followed by a reception that was named “Doc Holliday Night” sponsored by Brad and Wendi Courtney. It was attended by over 200 people.
A movement had started. In 2025, Prescott’s Doc HolliDaze was inaugurated. It included a meet the author’s reception, a speakeasy crawl, a Wild West history forum, a Grand Victorian party, and an event closing Sunday brunch. The aim is to make Prescott’s Doc HolliDaze an annual event, and the forum a premier Earpiana educational experience.
